Senior vs junior designers: why we only work senior
Short answer
For an early-stage startup, senior designers are usually worth it. They move faster, they've already tested which patterns work, and they ask the questions that shape the product early, which means fewer revisions and fewer decisions to undo later. Everyone who works on your product at Bondin is senior.
No juniors learning on your budget, no handoffs to someone you’ve never met.
What’s the real difference between a junior and a senior designer?
A talented junior can do good work. But two things usually show.
The first is time. Things take longer when you’re seeing a problem for the first time.
The second is depth. Each of us has years behind us, in startups, companies and agencies, some of them our own. We’ve been here many times. So when we look at a screen, we’re already thinking about users, churn, profitability, what needs to be tracked, and what a great experience feels like. All at once, without having to remind ourselves.
Why do tested patterns matter?
We’ve designed so many flows that a lot of them are patterns now. We know which ones work and which ones don’t, because we’ve watched both ship.
That saves founders from paying for experiments someone else already ran.
What questions does a senior designer ask?
Honestly, the biggest difference is the questions.
Seniors can see the product behind the brief quickly, so we ask better questions early. How do you want to position this? What is this iteration really for? Who is it for first?
Those questions aren’t only for us. They often show founders answers they hadn’t reached yet, and angles they never thought about.
A good question in week one is worth more than a polished screen in week two.
What you get
Fewer revisions. Fewer decisions you’ll have to undo later. And a team that thinks about your business, not just your pixels.
